Day 2: McMichael Art Gallery, Kleinburg

The students went on their first field trip today to the McMichael Art Gallery in Kleinburg, Vaughn in Ontario.

They were able to walk around the gallery looking at paintings and learning about the history of Canadian painters, specifically the Group of Seven.  Each group followed a tour guide, who led them in activities around the gallery.  The senior class sketched some of the famous paintings from the gallery.  The junior class talked about how the paintings made them feel.  After walking around the gallery, students learned new painting techniques using a special type of crayon.  All of them enjoyed painting replicas of some of the famous pieces from the gallery.

Students appreciated the chance to eat lunch outdoors before taking a walk around the main street of Kleinburg.  On the main street, students split up into four different groups, each one following a teacher or student helper.  Each group walked around the street, stopping in ice cream shops, clothing stores, and candy shops to pick up some treats or souvenirs.  This time allowed for students to bond with each other and with the staff.

Students boarded the school bus to return back to the school, where they played games before their families came to pick them up.

In general, students really opened up and were willing to speak and learn more English.
